The Importance of Play
As an influencer and founder, I spend a not-insignificant amount of time looking at screens. For every fun event I host or attend, there are hours spent behind the scenes coordinating and editing.
I enjoy the work I do very much! However, I’ve found it key to be intentional about spending meaningful time offscreen.
When MindHappy reached out to me about creating a Special Issue of The Newsletter sharing my experience with their service, I was thrilled! Mindhappy is a mindfulness subscription service which invites adults to reclaim their attention and celebrate joy through the power of play. Each mystery box includes calming, hands-on activities (think molding clay, model building, puzzles and more) sourced from artisans and small businesses.
Much of the ethos behind La Vie de Zee is celebrating joy and fostering an environment where happiness can flourish. Most of us would say that we want more joy in our lives, but what steps are we taking to actively make room for happiness and play?
A big part of my “healing journey” has been learning how to celebrate my inner child, making joy and fun an integral part of my life. That manifests in the way that I dress, the type of content I make, and in tools like Mindhappy designed for carving out intentional time to connect to myself and express my creativity.
Much like when I was given a coloring sheet with crayons at a restaurant as a child, I decided to play with my sculpting set while waiting for lunch to arrive. Because why not?
Having so much power at the touch of a finger via our smartphones is an incredible gift. But it’s important to make time for engaging with the analog world and our inner world, as well. We must visit that space where we turn our minds off and let ourselves be transported by a fun, non- “productive” hobby. Experts say that engaging in restful, fun activities is key to avoiding burn out, which is essential for achieving longer-term goals.
